Picklists
Weighted and manual picklists, how weighted rankings are calculated, and alliance selection.
Picklists belong to your team. Every teammate sees the same lists and every change, live, so there’s no spreadsheet to pass around.
Create a picklist
Section titled “Create a picklist”Open Picklists and select New picklist. Give it a name, then choose a kind:
- Weighted: ranks teams by the metrics you care about, and re-ranks as new data comes in.
- Manual: an order you set by hand, synced with your teammates.
Choose whether it’s for the current event or the whole season. A weighted list starts from a preset; you can change the weights after.
Weighted picklists
Section titled “Weighted picklists”A weighted list ranks every team by a Score built from the metrics you choose.
Under Weights, select Add a metric for each thing your strategy needs, like teleop points, climbs or defense, and drag its slider to set how much it matters. Remove a metric with its ×. Select Save weights when you’re done; your teammates see the new ranking right away.
The table shows each team’s score, and on wider screens the metrics behind it. The ranking uses your current sources, and Shared numbers as of … below it says how fresh the shared data is.
How the score is calculated
Section titled “How the score is calculated”Lovat standardizes each team’s performance in each metric by comparing it with the other teams at the event. Using the mean and standard deviation for each metric across all robots, it finds where each team sits on the field’s bell curve. That turns raw numbers in different units (points, seconds, climb levels) into comparable z-scores: the number of standard deviations from the field’s average.
For each metric, the conversion is
where
Each z-score is multiplied by its weight, and the products are added up to give the team’s score:
| Teleop points (weight 0.4) | Driver ability (weight 0.3) | Total fuel fed (weight 0.1) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Team’s average | 150 | 5 | 12 |
| Field average | 112 | 4 | 83 |
| Field standard deviation | 30 | 2 | 50 |
| Z-score × weight |
The team’s score is
A few details:
- For metrics where lower is better, the sign flips, so a higher weight always favors the better robot.
- A team with no data for a metric gets a z-score of 0 for it, so it neither gains nor loses.
- If every team has the same value, Lovat uses a small standard deviation so the math still works.
- When a metric comes from a question that was added mid-season, Lovat marks it if few reports at the event answered it, since teams that played early have less of that data.
Manual picklists
Section titled “Manual picklists”Add teams with Add a team, or select several on the Teams page and choose Add to picklist. You can also type a team number and “add” in search, like 973 add.
To reorder in the browser or desktop app, drag a row, or focus it and press Alt ↑ or Alt ↓. In the iOS and Android app, use a row’s menu: Move up, Move down or Move to top.
Mark teams you won’t pick with Mark do not pick. They show a DNP badge and fade, but stay on the list in case you change your mind.
If two teammates move the same team at the same moment, the later move wins.
Alliance selection
Section titled “Alliance selection”During alliance selection, turn on Alliance selection on a picklist for your event. Tick Picked as each team is chosen. Lovat marks the Next available team on your list. Picks are shared with your whole team, so the person on the field and the people in the stands always agree.
Share and export
Section titled “Share and export”There’s nothing to share: your whole team sees every list. To work with a list somewhere else, use Export CSV in the browser or desktop app, or Share as CSV in the iOS and Android app. Rename and Delete are in the list’s menu; deleting removes it for everyone on the team.
