The apps work offline
Section titled “The apps work offline”The iOS, Android and desktop apps keep a full copy of your team’s data on the device: reports, scouters, schedules and picklists, plus the shared numbers for events your team is on the team list for or has scouted. Navigation is instant because nothing waits on the network, and everything keeps working when the venue Wi-Fi gives out. Changes upload when a connection returns.
Every install is an equal peer. There’s no main device: any Dashboard can take in reports from any Collection phone and trade data with any teammate’s Dashboard. See Work offline and sync.
The web is online only
Section titled “The web is online only”The web version is for quick looks, links people share, and computers where you can’t install anything. It works on tablets and computers. Phones get a page with links to the apps instead.
The web version needs a connection for everything and stores nothing on the computer, so signing out leaves no team data behind. If the connection drops, the page you’re on stays readable, and Lovat suggests the app. Features that need an app, like receiving reports or nearby sync, still appear in menus and search; selecting one tells you which app has it.
During competition week, Lovat reminds you to install an app, since that’s when venue Wi-Fi lets you down.
The desktop app
Section titled “The desktop app”The desktop app is the web Dashboard with an offline copy of your data, plus a few things only a computer can do:
- A menu bar with every command, including Sources (own team or all teams) and Sync (nearby sync, receive from Collection, enroll a Collection phone).
- File → Open .lovat File… and Save .lovat File… for handing data to a teammate.
- Settings → This computer, where you can Back up now and Show data file.
